2007 - 2008 Carpentry

The following items were discussed during the meeting in Clanton on October 23, 2007.

  1. Official contest dress will be required for each contestant.

  2. Each contestant also needs the following:

    1. White hardhat, no logos or other information on it.

    2. Work gloves

  3. In addition to the tool list in the national standards book the following items will be needed,

    1. Screw gun or drill for metal studs and drywall

    2. C-clamp visegrips for metal studs

  4. The contest will be a two-day contest again this year. It is based on the 2007 National Contest.  Part 1 will begin at 1:00 pm Tuesday, April 29 and Part 2 will begin at 8:00 am on Wednesday the 30th.  There will be a written test as part of the contest.  The test will be from the NCCER Core Curriculum.

  5. All Instructors must bring One (1) prize per contestant.  In addition we are trying to get items to put together gift bags for each contestant.  .  We are asking all Instructors to bring extra items (tape measures, hammers gift cards ) to the contest for this purpose.

  6. We are trying to get all of the materials and prizes donated.  This way we will not have to have a contestant fee.  If everyone will talk to their suppliers and try to secure prizes, (tools, equipment ect) it will be a big help.

  7. We will not have an elimination test again this year.  Everyone is encouraged to bring someone to compete.  In order to get enough material donated we need to know an approximate number as soon as possible.  I would like everyone that is planning to bring compete to send me the number of possible contestants.  I do not need names, just numbers, by December 20th.  My contact info.
